Frequently Asked Questions
The following questions are answered in this section.
Answer: It seemed like a good idea. We got fed up with buying things only to find out that a friend of ours had one already and we could have either tried it before we bought it or simply borrowed it. It all seemed such a waste! So we decided to build LetsAllShare where members can share stuff with people they trust on whatever terms they wish.
Q2. What is a community?
Answer: A community is a group of individuals with whom you will be able to share your stuff. They can vary in size from everyone to a small elie number of your family and closest friends. LetsAllShare will allow you to join or build various communities and to share your stuff under differing terms with each one of them.
For example, you may have a portable DVD player that you would share for free with your friends and family but would prefer to charge a small rental fee to everyone else. With LetsAllShare that is not a problem. As a new member you will become part of 3 different communities:
-
You will be set up with a personal Friends and Family community, which you will populate by sending out invitations or accepting invitations from other members.
-
You will automatically become a member of a Local community which will include members in your immediate area (e.g your street).
-
You will also become a member of the complete LetsAllShare community.
Remember this does not mean that everything that you offer to share can be seen by all of these communities. You have complete control as to which community can see what and on what terms.
Q3. What happens if something I share gets broken?
Q4. Can others see my personal details?
Q5. Do I have to share stuff that I have posted and / or agreed to share?
Q6. Should I tell people where I live?
Q7. Does LetsAllShare guarantee or insure my stuff?
Q8. Why do I need an Alias?
Q9. What is the difference between a Personal, Central and Local community?
Q10. What level of deposit or rent should I charge?
Q11. If after sharing with a member from one of my communities I no longer wish for them to see my stuff, is there anything else that I can do besides deleting them?
Answer: Yes, you can create a new personal community and transfer them into that community. As they still remain in one of your personal communities, they will still be able to see you in whichever personal community they put you in. You can then set the rules for this community in terms of what stuff you are willing to share and on what terms. Afterall, everyone is different and subsequently, may have differing views as to the acceptable condition of return of the stuff that they are sharing. Where another members view is different to yours you may in time wish to limit what they can see without deleting them completely.
Q12. What happens when I delete a member from one of my personal communities?
Answer: When you delete a member from your personal community then, assuming that they do not exist in another one of your personal communities, the link between you and that member will be broken. You will no longer be able to see their stuff and they will no longer be able to see yours. In some cases you may want to consider creating a new personal community and moving someone to that new community rather than deleting them.
Q13. What sort of items, services and recommendations should I offer to share?
Answer: Anything at all. Consider what you have that you would be happy for people to borrow, maybe what you have in the garage or loft (or stored anywhere else) and what services you could provide or things you could recomend. For example, Do you have camping equipment? What about ski clothes? DIY Tools that rarely see the light of day? Perhaps you are a wizz at setting up wireless home networks? Perhaps you would be happy to check a freinds tax return? You may know a good Polish plumber or builder? Consider the categories that are listed and think of things that you may have. Our favourite shared item to date is an evening dress, worn twice.
Q14. How do I find out who the administrator is of a central community that I would like to join?
Answer: Unless you are already a member of that central community, the system will not tell you who the administrator is. If you are looking to join an existing community then it is because you have heard about it from someone who is already a member. You should ask them for the administrators contact details and then ask to be invited.
Q15. Who forms part of my Local community?
Answer: Anyone that lives in your immediate area will automatically form part of your local community. Your area is determined by the first part of your postcode and first digit of the second part. For example, if your postcode is SW19 6NH your local community will be made up of all LetsAllShare members who have registered with a postcode that starts SW19 6. Similarly if you live in LA1 6PH your local members will share the postcode elements LA1 6. The idea behind having an automatic local community is that it is good to get to know your neighbours as it is easy to share stuff with them without the need for transportation. Remember, you always control what elements of the stuff that you have posted they can see and on what terms. You are always in control.
Q16: Are there any fees involved?
Answer: No, at least not at this stage. LetsAllShare is currently free to use and anyone can join, build a community, start a new community, post items and commence sharing. There are only two situations where you may incur a fee. The first is if you agree to share something with another member and their terms of agreement state that a rental fee is required (you pay them not us!). The second is if you need to leave a deposit and subsequently break the item. Again as with the rental you will deal and exchange money with the other member and never with LetsAllShare.
Q17. Can I leave feedback?
Answer: Yes. LetsAllShare has a feedback system which we ask all members to use. After you have shared or borrowed something, you will be able to give feedback on the experience that you had and the member with whom you transacted. This feedback can be viewed by others. This is similar to the feedback system that you may experience in some auction sites.
Q18. How many Items do I need to share?
Answer: As many or as few as you want to. You do not need to list everything that you have. Why not simply start off by listing two or three of the more obvious things that spring to mind. In time as you see requests from other members for things that you have you can add them. Posting an item is very easy and very quick.
